Separate decoration from the route

Observe ears, legs, tails and markings that distinguish silhouettes, while locating the start and finish separately. Theme details can surround the route; follow the passages rather than using part of the illustration as a shortcut.

After the activity

Choose two animals and explain one similarity and one difference using what you can observe. Compare animals by their features and movement without assuming they all share a habitat.

Backtrack to the last decision

If you reach a dead end, return to the last junction and try another branch. A pencil lets you correct your route without obscuring the passages. When finished, follow your line from start to finish to check that it does not jump over a wall.
