A multi-step word problem may combine grouping and sharing. Four boxes contain 6 pencils each, shared among 3 tables. First calculate 4 × 6 = 24 pencils; then 24 ÷ 3 = 8 pencils per table.
Write what the intermediate answer means before continuing. The grade 3 label helps with browsing, but check whether the learner understands multiplication, sharing and the wording. Adjust quantities if you need to focus on the reasoning.
Work through one example aloud before independent practice. To check 18 + 7 = 25, calculate 25 − 7. If a word problem asks about meters or coins, include that unit and check whether the answer fits the situation.
