A times table records equal groups. Four groups of three give 4 × 3 = 12.
A times table records equal groups. Four groups of three give 4 × 3 = 12. Draw four rows of three dots and see how turning the array makes three rows of four: 3 × 4 also gives 12.
Use facts you already know: 6 × 7 can be worked out as 5 × 7 + 7 = 42. Mix a few earlier facts into practice and check the meaning of the groups as well as recalling the answer.
Work through one example aloud before independent practice. To check 18 + 7 = 25, calculate 25 − 7. If a word problem asks about meters or coins, include that unit and check whether the answer fits the situation.
