Observe the theme’s shapes
Before choosing colors, locate corn cobs, pumpkins and table settings. Separate foreground and background, then test a short palette on scrap paper. Repeat a color to connect details in different parts of the picture.
After the activity
Write down an everyday thing you appreciate or invent a shared-meal scene; customs and dates vary by place. Use harvest, shared-table and gratitude motifs for a Thanksgiving activity without treating a picture as a summary of its history.
Try a small palette
Choose three or four colors and test them together on scrap paper. Repeat a color in separate areas to connect them visually, or leave some spaces white. With markers, place a protective sheet underneath and check whether ink shows through.
