How to begin
Look at the rounded silhouettes and simple facial features. A short palette and a soft background color can separate the character from its surroundings. Try a small highlight by leaving some paper uncolored.
Review your work
Keep eyes and outlines visible as you add color. Change an object’s colors imaginatively; the drawing style does not require a particular palette.
Try a small palette
Choose three or four colors and test them together on scrap paper. Repeat a color in separate areas to connect them visually, or leave some spaces white. With markers, place a protective sheet underneath and check whether ink shows through.
