Observe the theme’s shapes
Before choosing colors, locate petals, leaves, stems and pot rims. Separate foreground and background, then test a short palette on scrap paper. Repeat a color to connect details in different parts of the picture.
After the activity
Draw a small garden and explain where you would place a path to reach the plants. Observe garden elements and how plants, paths and tools are arranged in a scene.
Try a small palette
Choose three or four colors and test them together on scrap paper. Repeat a color in separate areas to connect them visually, or leave some spaces white. With markers, place a protective sheet underneath and check whether ink shows through.
