How to begin
Identify petals, center, stem and leaves before choosing colors. Repeat a tone across several flowers to connect them and use another for the centers. Add a pot or background afterward.
Review your work
A decorative drawing does not always depict a particular species. For observational coloring, compare it with a real flower; for an imaginary composition, invent the palette freely.
Try a small palette
Choose three or four colors and test them together on scrap paper. Repeat a color in separate areas to connect them visually, or leave some spaces white. With markers, place a protective sheet underneath and check whether ink shows through.
