Look for continuing details
In a picture on this theme, long tails, necks, crests and footprints can provide reference points. Find a detail crossing two pieces and check its orientation before trying another join.
After the activity
Distinguish what an illustration shows from what a footprint can tell you; a decorative picture is not a scientific reconstruction. Observe dinosaur silhouettes and compare necks, tails and other visible features.
Match continuing details
Start with outside edges, then find colors or lines continuing between two pieces. Arrange pieces without gluing until you have checked the full picture. Keep the reference visible at first and put it aside for a second attempt.
