Before filling in a spreadsheet, choose the currency and the period you will record. Keep dates, categories and amounts in separate columns.
Define the period and record planned and observed amounts separately. With 100 planned units and 92 recorded units, the difference is 8.
To understand a 50/30/20 split, apply the percentages to a sample amount. On 1000 units, the blocks are 500, 300 and 200, totaling 1000 again.
Before filling in a spreadsheet, choose the currency and the period you will record. Keep dates, categories and amounts in separate columns. One row per transaction makes it easier to trace a total and correct mistakes.
Test the sheet with two or three simple amounts and check the total manually. Distinguish input cells from calculated cells. Do not add amounts from different currencies or periods as though they were equivalent; the template organizes the data you enter.
